About MoreMead!

MoreMead! Was founded in 2015, by Bob Thornton, on the need to find REAL mead, those made from fermented honey and not wine/alcohol based like many on the market. This was a hard mission! We worked on importing from Germany as they produce some excellent meads, but we really wanted to find a producer to work with in the U.K too. We love mead, it’s one of our main passions in life….excellent mead that is!

image1We are proud to be producing our very own Valhalla Mead, based around Nordic mythology, working in collaboration with New Quay Honey farm, Wales. Sam Cooper, the head mead maker, is an immensely knowledgeable man when it comes to all things Honey and makes outstanding artisan meads. We will be working closely with him on product creation and to bring even more Meads to our market in the future.

We are members of the European Mead Makers Association, and we hope to work on collaborations with some very talented mead makers, to bring their meads to the UK market.

A major success for us is to be the importer and distributor of the awesome Grimfrost meads, from Sweden, alongside Mjödhamnen meads, produced by the craft mead maker, Johan Pihl. He produces some spectacular seasonal meads and we can’t wait for you to taste them. Truly inspirational.

Grapevine Brew HouseWe are based in lovely rural Devon. Our current sales are at markets and living history/reenactment/LARP fairs and food and drink festivals, and we have the Valhalla Mead Bar that we can bring to your events. We have our range of meads available in The Grapevine brew house, Exmouth, an awesome pub with its own brewery, Crossed Anchors, and artisan burger restaurant, Ruby. Beer, burgers and Mead, what more could you want?

We also do mail order, to mainland U.K. only. Please check out our Facebook/Twitter/Instagram pages for more info, offers and competitions.

We hope you love our Meads as much as we do. Mead is truly the drink of the Gods!

Wassail!

Meet the MoreMead! Team

Here at MoreMead we feel it is our duty to share our passion for real Meads. As such team MoreMead! has gained two awesome Mead connoisseurs who will be helping to taste test Meads and write reviews and blogs about them. Our mission will be to seek out all of the best Meads the land has to offer, review them, visit the Meaderies and to promote real Mead from the U.K and the rest of the world.

I‘ve had a real passion for Mead for as long as I can remember. In my humble opinion it’s the best drink on this good Earth. Revered and drunk by our ancestors and by the Gods themselves, in lots of cultures, if you believe the tales.
I have spent a lot of time searching out and trying real Meads, those brewed from Honey and water, with fruit and spices if that‘s the style, and it’s been an exciting and interesting Journey, with hopefully a long and interesting road ahead.
So, happy Mead drinking and ‘Wassail!’

Hailing from the leafy Surrey Hills I have a long held and passionate interest in our ancient traditions, beliefs, customs and heritage which extends to the wonderful creation that is mead. I’m overjoyed by the current resurgence in this most ancient of drinks and the fantastic and diverse range of meads it is bringing into being. There is little I love more than a firelit evening with a Goblet of good mead, it really takes me back..... Waaaaay back!!!

I always love honey, and I would give any honey related product a try. I had my first mead encounter with a friend visiting from Singapore. We were both feeling adventurous and gave it a try. ‘OMG!!! This is a drink from heaven! Why has no one told me about this? How could this wonderful drink not be drunk by most people?’, that was my first reaction. Since then I have been searching up and down to look for mead and have been trying as many as I could get hold of. I am intrigued by the unique taste and smell of mead made from different honey and with other ingredients. Each mead has a story to tell. Always looking for more surprises from mead!
